Colombo, Sri Lanka – March 15, 2025 – Hayleys Fentons Limited successfully concluded its Beach Run & Clean-up at Crow Island Beach Park, Colombo. Organised by the Hayleys Fentons Compliance Division and supported by the Department of Coast Conservation & Coastal Resources Management. This initiative not only reinforced the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement but also fostered a habit and a mindset of responsibility inspiring others to follow the same path.
Aligned with Hayleys Lifecode, Hayleys Fentons is dedicated to preserving the environment through direct action. In line with our ESG roadmap, we actively engage in initiatives that contribute to the protection of ecosystems.
Crow Island Beach Park was selected due to its ecological significance and severe environmental pollution challenges. Located near Colombo’s harbour, it faces increasing waste accumulation from urban development, industrial activities, and ineffective waste management. The southwest monsoon currents also deposit plastic waste, discarded fishing nets, and marine debris, making it a high-priority area for intervention. By addressing these challenges, the initiative directly contributed to cleaner coastal waters and improved sanitation, promoting responsible waste management.
The initiative brought together employees to promote both fitness and sustainability. The day began with an energising workout session, including a beach run, bodyweight exercises, and other fitness activities. Following this, participants actively took part in cleaning up the beach, removing waste and helping restore its natural beauty.
Reflecting on the event, Pamudith Gunawardana, Director and Chief Financial Officer, Hayleys Fentons, remarked, “This initiative was more than just a clean-up. It was a step towards reducing our environmental impact by actively managing waste and fostering a culture of sustainability and teamwork. As part of our commitment to circular economy practices, we aim to drive long-term value by instilling a mindset of responsibility—encouraging not just our employees but also the wider community to adopt sustainable waste management habits. We are incredibly proud of our employees for making such a positive impact.”
Adding to this Nisal Liyanage, Assistant General Manager, Group Compliance & ESG, Hayleys Fentons, stated, “At Hayleys Fentons, we recognise that sustainability goes beyond corporate responsibility—it’s about measurable impact. With our target of managing 10 tons of community waste by 2030, initiatives like this beach clean-up are instrumental in translating our long-term vision into tangible environmental progress. Seeing our employees come together for such a meaningful cause is truly inspiring.”
As environmental concerns grow, Hayleys Fentons remains committed to leading by example. The Beach Run & Clean-up was a step towards more community-driven sustainability efforts. Hayleys Fentons extends its gratitude to all participants for their dedication.
